I went on a little heart-making spree recently! And can you blame me? I don't think so! Hearts are what I started with, and they will always be a staple in my crafting journey.
The Inspiration Behind My Crafts
They are fun to make and can be personalized in endless ways. The design possibilities are truly exciting. Each heart can reflect your creativity, mood, or the occasion you are celebrating. This time, I decided to create a trio of decoupage hearts.
These hearts feature the Decoupage Queen's A3 size peacock 4 pack rice paper on the fronts, which turned out to be the perfect fit for these 11 cm hearts! I also added a beautiful stencil on the back because, as they say, more is more. There's no way I’m leaving the back bare when I can enhance it with a stencil!
Crafting Steps to Create Your Own Decoupage Hearts
Here’s how to create your own lovely decoupage hearts. Follow these simple steps:
Materials You Will Need
Gather the following materials for your project:
Pentart Acrylic Primer
Wooden hearts (11 cm)
Decoupage Queen "Peacock 4 Pack" rice paper in A3 size
Pentart Decoupage varnish and glue (Matte)
Fusion Alchemy line paint "Sandstone"
Pentart Navy Blue acrylic paint
Diva Dezigns "French Quarter" stencil
Annie Sloan black wax
Finnabair Unicorns Hair sparks paint
Preparing Your Workspace
Before you start crafting, prepare your workspace. Ensure it's clean and well-lit. Lay down some protective covering to avoid messes.
Priming the Wooden Hearts
Start by applying the Pentart Acrylic Primer to the wooden hearts. This step ensures that the colors will adhere properly and makes your final design look professional. Let the primer dry completely before moving on.
Applying Decoupage Paper
Next, cut your Decoupage Queen “Peacock 4 Pack” rice paper to size. Use the Pentart Decoupage varnish and glue to attach the rice paper to the front of each heart. Smooth out any bubbles to achieve a flat finish.
Stenciling the Back
Once the front is dry, flip the hearts over to work on the back. Use the Diva Dezigns “French Quarter” stencil to add an intricate design. Apply a coat of paint or a contrasting color using a sponge or brush. This added detail will make your hearts even more eye-catching.
Final Touches
After everything is dry, seal your design with a layer of Pentart Decoupage varnish. This will protect your work and give it a beautiful finish. You can also add shading with Annie Sloan black wax for added depth.
